AG sued over salaries for spouses of the president and his vice

The Attorney General’s Office has been sued by two NDC MPs over Parliament’s endorsement of pay rates for the life partners of the President and Vice President.

The MPs are Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor of South Dayi and Dr Clement Apaak of Builsa South. They are joined by Frederick Nii Commey.

They are looking for an aggregate of eight reliefs from the Supreme Court. The reliefs are;

An affirmation that upon a valid and appropriate translation of Article 71(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the Professor Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee delegated by the President under Article 71(1), just had purview to make suggestions in regard of pay rates, remittances payable, offices and advantages of Article 71 office holders under the 1992 Constitution.

A further affirmation that upon a valid and legitimate translation of Article 71(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the Prof Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee had no purview, order or power to make any suggestions in regard of pay rates, stipends payable, offices and advantages of people other than people indicated under Article 71 of 1992 Constitution.

A revelation that upon a valid and appropriate translation of Article 71(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the Prof Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee surpassed its purview, command and authority when it suspected to make proposals in regard of advantages, offices, compensations and remittances payable to the first Lady and the spouse of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

A further affirmation that the proposals of the Committee, to the degree that it relates to the first Lady and the spouse of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, are invalid, void and of no impact.

An announcement that upon a valid and legitimate understanding of the Constitution, 1992, mates of the President and the Vice President are not Article 71 office holders for the motivations behind receipt of wages and remittances.

A request announcing the suggestions in regard of advantages, offices, pay rates and remittances payable to the first Lady and the spouse of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana as illegal and void.

A request controlling the President of the Republic of Ghana or some other arm, service, division or organization of the Executive, from carrying out any suggestions of the Prof Ntiamoah-Baidu Committee which relates to the first Lady and the spouse of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

Any further Order(s) or direction(s) as this Honorable Court may consider significant.

Legal advisors of the candidates documented the activity at the library of the Supreme Court Thursday.

In the mean time, a subsequent writ looking for comparable reliefs has likewise been documented, this time by the NPP’s Kwame Baffoe famously known as “Abronye”.
